Birds of Paradise
Birds of Paradise

In a brutal struggle for independence on the other side of the world, the Dutch flag is waving as a symbol of freedom. An image that brings us back to the tropical Dutch New Guinea in the early 60's, when the Dutch state promised the population of its Papuan colony their own country. This promise was never fulfilled, but the hope of a free West Papua lives on with thousands of Papuan Dutch. Their story is carelessly tucked behind the windows of neat townhouses, churches from small villages and the backrooms of The Hague.

- Director & DOP: Daan Veldhuizen
- Production manager: Merle Bemelmans
- Producers: Hasse van Nunen & Renko Douze

  • Length: 55' & 75'
  • Status: in development
  • With financial support of the Dutch Cultural Film Fund
